CASE STUDY
BRIDGE APPROACH - VALENTINE PLAINS QLD
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Slab Jack Industries was called upon to address critical stabilisation, consolidation, and recovery needs for two floodway assets belonging to a Central Queensland council. Both structures faced extensive undermining, with evidence of scouring in subsoils and a compromised support system, ultimately causing failure of the carriageway substrate. The challenge at hand necessitated a comprehensive approach to ensure the structural integrity and functionality of the assets are restored.
SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of the project involved a detailed assessment of the undermined floodway assets, identifying subsoil issues and structural vulnerabilities.
Slab Jack Industries implemented a unique deep injection system to stabilise the compromised areas. This innovative approach was complemented by continuous monitoring of carriageways for movement. The scope of works extended to addressing large cracks through the application of stabilising polyurethane, followed by precise epoxy injection to fortify the affected areas. Additionally, all carriageway joints underwent meticulous recovery to achieve level surfaces, ensuring the assets were ready to resume service.
PROPOSED SOLUTION
Slab Jack Industries proposed a multifaceted approach, incorporating their unique deep injection system for stabilisation, polyurethane solutions for consolidation and structural support, epoxy injection for crack repairs, and precise recovery works to ensure a level and functional carriageway.
The scope of works included the strategic application of a total of 300KG of stabilisation polyurethane through 60 injection ports for sub-base consolidation and the remediation of an 8LM-wide transverse crack.
Concurrently, 300KG of structural polyurethane lifting foam was applied via 30 injection ports to achieve positive recovery for both the eastern approach and an 8 LM transverse crack. Epoxy injection repairs were then executed on a 15LM crack in the eastern approach, ensuring robust structural integrity. The proposed solution also featured meticulous slab recovery works, stabilisation of the centre floodway, and epoxy repairs on an 8 LM transverse crack, all executed with a stringent focus on safety and efficiency.
OUTCOME
Following the implementation of the proposed solution, the floodway assets underwent a successful transformation. The stabilisation process, facilitated by the unique deep injection system, effectively addressed subsoil scouring and structural deficiencies; all executed with a stringent focus on safety and efficiency.
The application of stabilising polyurethane and epoxy injection provided robust support to rectify large cracks. Through meticulous recovery work on carriageway joints, the assets were restored to level, and functionality was reinstated.
The project's outcome showcased Slab Jack Industries' ability to deliver effective and long-lasting solutions in the realm of structural rehabilitation and stabilisation.
